Top 5 Areas for Implementation

1. Healthy Church Model: I have used this model in working with a church this summer/fall as they developed their church’s mission and vision statements.

2. Ten Principles of Change: These principles were very helpful as I worked with a church this summer. They had recently undergone a pastoral change and these principles helped me be sensitive to their feelings about change, celebrate their past, get to the core of their present issues, and help them develop a plan for future change with which everyone was comfortable.

3. Ten Considerations for Hiring Staff: I wrote a job description for a new staff position at a church this fall. The church is not accustomed to preparing job descriptions. I encouraged them to use job descriptions for new and existing positions so everyone understands expectations of the position and helped them get started by preparing a job description for a new position.

4. Stats on Members Leaving Church as Result of Change: It can be disconcerting for members to leave a church. But, sometimes that occurs with a change in pastoral leadership. The stats quoted at the beginning of the training were helpful in understanding member shifts as a result of change and will be shared with a pastor currently experiencing this change eight months into his pastorate.

5. Lifecycle of a Ministry/S-curves: Understanding the lifecycle is helpful in becoming a “Second curve thinker” to think ahead. I will practice this myself and encourage others to be and look for these types of thinkers.
