Mission |
Our mission is to revitalize and advance churches through a network of high-quality consultants.
We accomplish this in two ways:
1. Training, certifying and edifying a global community of consultants
2. Connecting these consultants with churches

About Us |
The Society for Church Consulting (SCC) was first envisioned by Dr. Thom Rainer and Tom Harper at the same time Church Central's consultant training launched in 2002.
In February of 2006, Dr. Rainer moved to Nashville to become the new president/CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources, and as such withdrew his involvement from Church Central and the Society. Following that the Society was launched in 2007 and then become incorporated as a non-profit in 2010.
Tom guides the visionary direction of the Society, is the primary contact for board governance, and works on our collaborative relationship with the Great Commission Research Network.
Jim Barber is the Executive Director of the Society and resides in Minnesota. He seeks to execute the mission and vision of the Society through promotion, networking, training, and operational effectiveness. He has 17 years of business experience, 15 years experience as an executive pastor in a growing church, and became a certified church consultant in 2010. He has his own consulting practice called Barber Church Consulting.
Note from the executive director:
“The Society is on an exciting growth path and I am excited to be a part of that. We are expanding our impact in training, certification, and regional networking. For me, there was never a better time to join the Society, as member interest and activity continue to be on the increase.”

The Society for Church Consulting is devoted to revitalizing churches under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This organization trusts in the Bible as both its foundation and guide. We believe:
- Jesus Christ is God's one and only son, who died for our sins and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8 & John 3:16)
- The Bible is God's inspired word - a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. (2 Timothy 3:16 & Psalm 119:105)
- Every person has worth as God's creation, but all have sinned and fall short of God's glory. (Romans 3:23)
- Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16)
- Those who accept Christ have repented of sin and confessed their faith in Him. (Romans 10:9 & Acts 2:38)
- The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to evangelize the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
- Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
