 About Us

The Society for Church Consulting (SCC) was first envisioned by Dr. Thom Rainer and Tom Harper at the same time Church Central's consultant training launched in 2002.

SCC remains a division of Church Central Associates, which itself operates under the umbrella of trade publisher NetWorld Alliance. Tom Harper is president of both NetWorld and Church Central. In February of 2006, Dr. Rainer moved to Nashville to become the new president/CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources, and as such withdrew his involvement from Church Central and the Society.

The Society launched in 2007 in response to several needs:

1. The desire among current and prospective church consultants to associate with and learn from each other. An association of church consultants provides an excellent forum to address this need.

2. The need to ensure effectiveness and professionalism among church consultants. The Society will accomplish this through training and requiring all certified members to abide by its code of ethics.

3. The need to make church leaders aware that outside consulting is an option for their hurting churches. While the use of church consultants is growing, many pastors and ministers are not aware of the consultation process or how to develop the pastor/consultant relationship.

4.  Most importantly, the church is in decline, and we have a passion to do what we can to turn it around. We want to support God's church so his son will be glorified. Many churches need help to reach the lost and edify the saved, and we believe our consultants can restore many churches to their biblical purposes.

 Statement of Faith

The Society for Church Consulting is devoted to revitalizing churches under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This organization trusts in the Bible as both its foundation and guide. We believe:

  • Jesus Christ is God's one and only son, who died for our sins and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8 & John 3:16)
  • The Bible is God's inspired word - a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. (2 Timothy 3:16 & Psalm 119:105)
  • Every person has worth as God's creation, but all have sinned and fall short of God's glory. (Romans 3:23)
  • Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16)
  • Those who accept Christ have repented of sin and confessed their faith in Him. (Romans 10:9 & Acts 2:38)
  • The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to evangelize the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
  • Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
